Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the CSA before any other ServiceNow cert?

Yes — ServiceNow requires the CSA as a prerequisite for all Implementation Specialist and Application Developer certifications. There are no shortcuts.

How many CIS certs should I get before going for CTA?

ServiceNow's official CTA pathway typically expects three or more CIS certs plus the CAD. In practice, most CTA candidates have 4–6 CIS certs alongside real project delivery experience.

CAD or CIS-ITSM first after CSA?

Depends on your role. If you're a developer, go CAD. If you're an ITSM consultant, go CIS-ITSM. Many consultants do both within their first year post-CSA.

Is ServiceNow experience required, or can I study from scratch?

You can study for CSA from scratch using the ServiceNow learning portal, but the CIS and CAD exams assume hands-on instance experience. Most candidates have at least 3–6 months of project work before attempting them.
